To mark the 236th birthday of the United States Army, Newman's #39 Army Chevrolet will feature a tribute to decorated World War II veteran and 2011 NASCAR Hall of Fame inductee Walter M. "Bud" Moore. An army Corporal, Moore landed on Omaha Beach during the D-Day invasion of Normandy on June 6, 1944. After returning from war, this American hero went on to become an integral part of NASCAR history. Moore was the crew chief for Buck Baker's 1957 championship run. He also owned his own race team and has 63 wins and 43 poles to his credit. Darrell Waltrip, Cale Yarborough, David Pearson and Fireball Roberts all drove for Moore. Newman's #39 Army Birthday / Bud Moore NASCAR Hall of Fame Chevrolet Impala will feature a special Army birthday message on the hood and TV panel, as well as a photo tribute to Moore on the rear quarter panels.
